Why SOUN again

We laid out our scanning process in the last update — 43 candidates, a short list of five, and TRIP as the leading contender heading into Monday. But markets don't care about our plans, and Monday morning SOUN surfaced clearly on the scanner with the right combination of RSI reading, price level, and options premium.

SOUN is a known quantity for this challenge. We've traded it multiple times, we understand its behavior around the $6.50–$7.00 range, and we've seen it show real buying support near the $6.50 level repeatedly over the past few months. That familiarity has value — we're not guessing how this stock behaves under pressure.

Why familiarity matters

One underappreciated edge in the wheel strategy is trading stocks you've spent time with. When you've already held a position through a pullback, a roll, and a recovery on a given name, you have a more calibrated sense of how it moves. That's not a substitute for doing the work on every new trade — but it's a real factor when two setups look similar on paper.

The trade

On September 1, 2026 with SOUN trading around $7.00, we sold the September 11 $6.50 put for $0.10 in premium — $8.87 net after commissions and fees.

Trade Log — Open Position
Action Sell to Open 1x SOUN $6.50 Put
Date opened September 1, 2026
Stock price at entry ~$7.00
Expiration September 11, 2026 (10 days)
Premium collected +$0.10 (~$8.87 net)
Breakeven at expiration $6.40
Cushion to strike 7.1% below entry

The setup is straightforward. SOUN needs to stay above $6.50 through September 11 for the put to expire worthless. With the stock at $7.00 and recent price history showing support in the $6.50–$6.80 zone, we have a meaningful cushion and a level that's been tested and held before.

One lesson already applied

From the last SOUN trade — if this position gets to $0.02 with more than one day remaining, we close it early rather than waiting for expiration. Capturing that final penny isn't worth leaving capital idle when there's another setup available.

The account sits at $612 with one open position. If SOUN holds above $6.50 through September 11 and we close efficiently, the balance moves up by another ~$8.87. Nothing dramatic — just another step in a consistent, repeatable process.
